Over the duration of the school year I have
enjoyed my History of Education in Canada course, and therefore wanted to put a strong, thorough effort into the
assignments. I found that the first assignment was not overly difficult in terms of the actual essay, however finding enough
information regarding my specific topic, and organizing it sequentially throughout time was challenging. I was pleased
with the result and happy with my finished product.
The second
assignment involved something I had never done before, an interview. Initially, I thought it would not be difficult,
but I found that analyzing an interview into historical context was new to me, and therefore challenging. I chose to attempt
a website because I had never created one before. At times it was very fun, and at other times it was very aggravating. You
must be very patient if you are creating a website, and I am not overly patient. If I were to start all over again, I would
familiarize myself with how to make a website before just diving in and trying to make one. Nevertheless, I did manage to
get it done. Many students think that a website is the easy way out of this assignment because you don't have to
write as formal of a paper. I think making a website is more difficult because it is much more time consuming.
It was a challenge, but a rewarding one at that.
After completion
of both components for this assignment, I felt proud and content with what I had produced. I think that topic selection
is a key element in successful completion of the History 232 assignments. If you don't enjoy the topic you have chosen,
you will not be willing to put in a lengthily effort toward your work.
My
advice for next years History 232 class, is to get involved in the project, it makes the assignment fun, and easier to complete.
Pick a topic that you WANT to know more about, not a topic that you think will be easy. Try something new when given the opportunity,
multiple interviews, creating a website, what have you. These two assignments are pretty large and will take some time, do
not put them off until the night before, they just aren't the kind of assignments that can be done in one night. Other than
that, have fun with it, and give it your all.
